Tim Burton MOMA Party

The Party: Tim Burton Tribute After-Party
Location: Museum of Modern Art
Total Party Count: 63

The other night The Museum of Modern Art held a presentation & dinner entitled "MOMA Art Film Benefit: A Tribute to Tim Burton." Tickets were $2,500 which seemed like a good deal for some chicken or lamb or whatever but I skipped that part because my co-worker brought in Entenmann's Pop'ems. Instead Cassie and I opted for the After-Party, DJed by DFA's Justin Miller.

The party was cool but became infinitely more awesome when, whilst some Frenchies were flirting with us (but mainly with Cassie), there she was, just a few feet away from me, AUNTIE ELAINE! Yes, my crazy amazing partying aunt was in the house! Her response? "I'm glad you're here. I worry about you. I don't think you go out enough. This is a good crowd, I don't like the facebook crowd, I don't know which are your friends and which are the bands." Cassie and I were ROTFLOLing so hard.

Slumberland 20th Anniversary Party

The Party: Slumberland Records 20th Anniversary Party / Show
Location: The Bell House (in Gowanus)
Total Party Count: 62

On Saturday night I attended the 20th Anniversary party of Slumberland Records, home to your favorite indiepop artists of today, the 90's, and 1989! Epic Slumberland bands such as The Aisler's Set, Black Tambourine, Rocketship, and Henry's Dress were my high school soundtrack to studying Gemara and eating a tuna salad in a bathroom stall. I failed Jewish Philosphy 3 times but I got an "A" in Indiepop!

Fast forward 10 years, my only homework is a party blog, my tuna salads are eaten in a full size bed, and my friends are in awesome bands signed to Slumberland! It was fun hang times with Crystal Stilts, The Pains, and Pants Yell! I got there too late for the other bands cause I was at the Mario Bros. party.

Well well well, if it isn't The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

She's dreamed of being on Slumberland since she was a little girl in Naw'lins.

Backstage with the magical Mike Schulman of Slumberland & Co.

Raise your hand if you like Indiepops!

Super Mario Bros. for Wii Party

The Party: Super Mario Bros. for Wii Launch Party
Location: Nintendo World Store (in Rockefeller Center)
Total Party Count: 61

Guess what everybody!!! Super Mario Bros. for Nintendo Wii came out today!! I don't have a television or Wii anymore (the repo man took it away) so it doesn't really matter, but isn't it kind of wack that it took this long for Wii to come out with a Super Mario game? I wanted to buy normal Mario a while ago but the only games that existed were "Mario Kart" "Mario Party 8" and "Mario Super Spluggers." I went with "Mario Party 8" and that was a bad party. Here's me at a better party....

I think we make a cute couple

I made Avi be in this photo once he was done coding his website, even though he really couldn't care less about mario brothers.

Israeli Loft Party

The Party: Israeli Loft Party
Location: Amir & Friend's Apartment (in Midtown)
Total Party Count: 60

I met a man named Amir at yesterday's Jewish party, and within 27 seconds I was invited to his party at his loft for the following night, but I was warned "don't bring no guys, only girls." He pointed to Carlen, but  I couldn't drag poor Carlen to another party after what I made her suffer through that night, and all my other single female Jewish friends have sought refuge in a foreign country. This party was a solo adventure and I spent most of my time talking to a broken-hearted diamond dealer and amusing the other Israelis with my American-accented half-speed biblical-era Hebrew.

Party host Amir. Ma Shlomcha?

 Sababa!

My nice friends from the bathroom line!

I don't know who this man is but I found him in my camera. Shalom!

Jewish Fashion & Passion Party

The Party:  An Evening of Fashion and Passion CYJP/Birthright
Location: Escape (Midtown West)
Total Party Count: 59

Last week, two Jewish organizations, Birthright (aka giver of free trips to Israel for Jews) and  "The Council of Young Jewish Presidents" (whatever that means!) joined forces to create a party called "An Evening of Passion and Fashion," which pretty much guaranteed there would be no passion nor fashion in my future. I had been 50+ parties into my  project without having attended a Jewish "mixer", so I thought instead of celebrating sneakers or pumpkins or puppies I would try real life for once, but  now I remember why I was a depressed teen who had to make internet friends in lieu of real ones (answer: blame it on the Jews).

Co-Cupcake Freak Carlen Returns!

I rambled on incoherently about miscellaneous Jewish topics just to get a picture talking into a "Shalom TV" microphone

Just loungin' around!

My favorite person at this party was a man who walked around with a Lonely Planet Guide to Antactica.

2 out of 3 men in this photograph propositioned a threesome. Say what?! Not that kind of party girl.

The Birthday (not really) Party

The Party: The Birthday Party (not for a birthday)
Location: White Slab Palace (in the Lower East Side)
Total Party Count: 58

The other night I returned to the scene of Party #1, that being White Slab Palace, for a party called "The Birthday Party," though I'm pretty sure it wasn't anyone's actual birthday. This party employed the partyaday.com recommended technique of the "COMBO PARTY", whereby a bunch of people who individually may or may not be cool decide to have a joint party to ensure maximum attendance and coolness.

The invite read "MAX BARBARIA, TIM BARBER, JAMES CRUICKSHANK, SEAN KINNEY, JASPER WILSON, GABRIEL PRYCE, LUCIEN SMITH & AUREL SCHMIDT INVITE YOU TO :THE BIRTHDAY PARTY." I didn't know who any of these people were, but by the looks of the attendees, I'm going out on a limb and saying they work in fashion, photography, and modeling (if you actually know who these people are, please enlighten me). Sometimes you go to a party and think that everyone there is gross, but there are plenty of parties where you're going to be the gross one, especially if you just shampooed your hair and its all fluffy.

Hold on, let me just finish this round of bejeweled.

Music Video Wrap Party

The Party: Pains of Being Pure at Heart Music Video Wrap Party
Location: Daddy's Bar (in Greenpoint)
Total Party Count: 57

I agreed to be an extra in the next Pains of Being Pure at Heart music video last week because I was promised an after-party. I arrived at the set in Greenpoint, and for 2 hours as I patiently waited to become a star, I was entertained by this scene.....

These are actual Fursuiters i.e. people who dress up in furry costumes for role playing purposes. You probably think I'm going to make fun of them but you're wrong-- when these dorky, socially awkward, not particularly attractive group of folks put their furry suits on, they transform into totally awesome party animals (literally, haw haw).  I guess when you look good, you feel good! To think of all the dollars I've just wasted at Top Shop and Am Appy when really all I needed was a bunny suit.

After the shoot we all went to Daddy's for an informal video wrap party. Under fortuitous circumstances we  were joined by all the coolest people (I won't namedrop Vivian Girls & Fucked Up)!

Oh Daddy's!

Harvest's Internet Timesheet Office Party

The Party: Harvest's Office-Warming Party
Location: Harvest's Company Headquarters (in Soho)
Total Party Count: 56

If you are a devoted reader of partyaday.com (and who isn't!), you may recall Dave & Karen's Marathon Afterparty which I randomly crashed with the understanding that it would be one of the stupidest and pointless things I'd do for this party project. But apparently I was a smash hit with the marathoners, and partying begot partying when runner Danny Wen emailed me recently about his upcoming office-warming party for his company Harvest.

I did a quick search on Harvest and discovered its "online software to track time, log expenses, invoice clients, keep track of account receivables and revenue." Uhhhhh ok. Between that titillating company description and being late for a big Jewish benefit party, I almost skipped out on Danny's. Fortunately curiosity got the best of me and I quickly realized that online timesheet software makers throw the best parties!! I knew I was going to have cut back on my billable hours with the Jews because the Harvest party was chock full of  apple cider, pumpkin pie and dorky, adorable internet entrepreneurs!

I can't find any women in this photo. WOOHOO TECH PARTY!

Me & Harvest's wonderful Danny Wen

Mike, Professional Poker player by day, Rock Paper Scissor by night (he trained under the R.P.S. world champion!!!)

OMGZ! Its Michael Galpert from my high school!! Yeshivah of Flatbush represent!

Monday Night Vinyl Club Party

The Party: Monday Night Vinyl Club: Slumberland Records Edition
Location: The Bell House (in Gowanus)
Total Party Count: 55

Oh, Bell House, are you really going to make me go all the way to Gowanus? Listen, I'm not ignorantly hating on the neighborhood. I'm basing this on experience. Yes, believe it or not, I used to live closeby, and for nearly 2 years I tricked myself into believing that South-West Park Slope was totally awesome, even though I lived between Carlos's Auto Body Shop and a fly-infested supermarket (Carlos is nice! Groceries so close!).  Taking the train home at night took forever, and I'd keep my thumb not too far away from my can of pepper spray (Commuting is relaxing! Weaponry is fun!).

Well on Monday I unpacked my arsenal of weird and distant memories as I made my way to The Bell House for The Vinyl Club Party #13 featuring my dearest pals guest DJing, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. According to facebook, dozens of my friends were to be in attendance but I think they all  RSVP'd in haste before really comprehending what it means to go to Gowanus on a Monday night. Unlike me, they don't have party quotas to fill.

Whiplash! Comedy Afterparty

The Party: Whiplash! Comedy After-Party
Location: The Molly Wee Pub (in Chelsea)
Total Party Count: 54

Last week I went with a bunch of friends to Upright Citizen's Brigade to catch the weekly comedy show Whiplash - Monday nights at 11 hosted by Leo Allen-- Its kind of the best!

You know the funny thing about comedians? Answer: Just their routines. I don't want to shatter your world, but your favorite comedian is likely not funny in real life, and also really weird, and probably even a douche. Even though it may seem like, say, Eugene Mirman would be the best nicest coolest awesomest guy ever to hang out with, he's actually not (he dissed me much harder, don't feel bad). Bottom line- your regular friends are way more funny than most "comedians"-- and possibly "comedy writers" too (still working to confirm this-- anyone?). Yet despite all, when the prospect of the Whiplash Comedy After-Party presented itself, there was no turning back!

Apparently NYC's comedy scene hangs out after shows at  "The Molly Wee Pub,"or "The Molly" as they affectionately refer to it. I was in molesting distance of Sarah Silverman, Colin Quinn, Leo Allen, Todd Barry, The Sklar Brothers, and some other comedians. If you didn't read the first paragraph you might think that this bar was full of jokes and laughter, maybe people punk'n each other, some pies in faces, banana peels and fake mustaches, but it was more like a casual business meeting.

The funny table! birthday girl francesca, me, jay ruttenberg, kev ped, and whiplash's awesome jeremy levenbach.

Me at The Molly!! I met Mindy Tucker   and she took this photo.... she seems to be the official photographer of comedy and she's pretty amazing at what she does!
